Honouring the Strength of Women Worldwide: International Women's Day 2024 - Nilusha's Journey

Q: Tell us about when & how your fitness journey began.

A: My fitness journey began towards the end of high school. There was no particular moment or experience that kicked off my interest in fitness other than wanting to stay healthy. It did eventually evolve in studying Human Movement at Uni, I'd always had an interest in the human body, even as a child.

Q: What is your favourite physical activity and why?

A: I loving running - being outside, physical and finishing with an endorphin hit is one of the easiest ways for me to de-stress. I also love Pilates, so much so that I am currently a Pilates instructor. Pilates strengthens all those deep muscles surrounding our major joints - everyone will benefit from Pilates!

Q: Where are you at today in your health & fitness journey and how has this impacted your life?

A: I'm now an accredited exercise physiologist and have spent time working in the field of exercise rehab - where I've worked with and helped a wide array of people with varying levels of fitness, injuries and chronic health conditions.

Q: What are your tips for busy women who are the beginning of their health & fitness journey?

A: Consistency is key to forming any good habit, find something you enjoy doing, start small, dedicating 15 minutes a day to exercise you enjoy, adds up over the week! Make the time, block out some time in your calendar, wake up earlier, ask your partner for 15 minutes to yourself, use your lunch break (if you can) to dedicate to self care and moving your body. Everyone starts somewhere, starting is the hardest part!
